City Voices/ Letters of Trans(T*).DisCity
A Satellite project in context and collaboration with Stadt Labor Exhibition, inviting residents to express their desires, needs and wishes in form of a letter, by Jaskaran Anand and verein trivium.
What is your story in the city you live in?
Starting from such simple question about perspectives of the city, to daily discourses, City Voices is a collection of thoughts, likes/dislikes and desires perceived within a city The installation starting at Nordico Stadt Museum, with multiple locations around the city, serves as a symbolic representation, where the box becomes a powerful symbol of accessibility to the voices of the city’s residents and a representation that encapsulates the city into a transdisciplinary entity. The installation involves residents’ voices to be received, and heard.. how we categorize and desire certain aspects of ourselves and especially that of the city… There is no right or wrong!
- Who are you? (no existential questions, be creative) or who you imagine “you” are?
- What brought you “here” ?
*the city of Linz, workplace, this website...- Where are you coming from? (not where are you from)
- What does your city smell like?
- What changes do you want to see in the city?
- Which parts of the city you feel welcomed or not welcomed?
- At which hour, which area receives sun in the city for you?
Let’s write letters to „the city“ – Visit our letterbox stations & play.
You are invited to visit every station and find the possibility to write a letter to „the city“ – to „the city“, the politicians, institutions, referring specifically to our partners, and drop it at our stations.
You could also write a letter to a friend and to a neighbor – something you always wanted to share/discuss!
You could also use our reflection cards!
to simply write about the events you visit in our partner institutions, or simply suggest what you would like to see there….
You shall also use the cards to write about an interaction you had “today” or “last week” in the city…. Which will help us understand experiences of yours’ in the city…
Reflective cards can be used to answer some of our thought -provoking questions….
You could play a (dice) game and reflect
– pick up the question sheet (EN), (DE)
– roll 1-2 dice to arrive at a specific category.
– roll 1-2 dice again to reach a specific question.
Don’t like the category or question? Roll again.
Follow the procedure present inside the question card.
Simply reflect, and/or share/discuss these questions with someone – perhaps the one next to you, or a friend, and drop it in the box. You could also pass the question, or other kinds of reflection on to your friends or your colleagues. Voice out your thoughts!
You can also raise questions that you like to know about, let’s engage in a dialog..
What happens with the letter when I dropped it in the box? Will I get an answer and by whom
The letters will be brought to Nordico City museum by artist Jaskaran Anand.
There they will be mapped to gain a deep understanding on how „the city“ thinks, feels, and breathes: what do the residents need for developing inclusive and diverse atmospheres?
At least at February 25th we invite everyone to come together to a collective maping. In this and other workshops we will find out of how these responds connect with our feelings, our body movements, and sounds that we embody through our daily activities,
We come together to see what is connected to what? Perhaps the things we complain about, connect to the things we first need to change in ourselves and thereby transform the city into a transformative entity.
Further more artist Jaskaran Anand will translate these insights in performances that will also travel to other cities as embassadors.
